Replication

Database and file system contents are replicated between data centres in the primary region and data centers in the failover region. This allows the app to continue working even if one data center is completely destroyed. The primary and failover data centers are 150 miles / 240 km apart, so only a very large scale disaster (e.g. nuclear war, asteroid) could destroy both.

Backups

In addition to replication, data is redundantly backed up. We have two types of backups:

• Server file system replication, which take place daily
• Database backups, which take place every 5-10 minutes, and is geo-replicated
